    Reading chapter
A report on our trip to Reading is included in the latest issue of Banana Wings. In Finland, it will be published in Tero Ykspetäjä's perzine, Turu Mafia Zine. It is likely to be distributed within Sweden via the SFF APA mailing list, thanks to Johan and Linnéa Anglemark and Anna Davour.

The southbound GUFF delegate, Ang Rosin, is currently touring Australia and New Zealand. Her exploits are chronicled in [info]guff_grrrl.

    Finland
We have finished our first section of the GUFF trip report, the chapter about our travels in Finland.

Claire Brialey and Mark Plummer have kindly distributed it as a separate document with their mailout of Banana Wings in Europe and North America.

A version of the report will also appear in Spin, the magazine of the Turku Science Fiction Society. Our thanks to Johanna Ahonen.

We will post copies to fans in Australia within the next couple of weeks once we have finished compiling our mailing list.

We'll post here whenever futher chapters are ready.

Went to one of the local Berlin pub meetings for sf fans last night. It was a good evening, even if we forgot to have dinner. Today we're off to Potsdam, where we'll catch up with some other visiting fans.

Spent Friday in Stockholm with local fans, who showed us around town and gave us many tasty kinds of beer. We spent the weekend with the friendly fans of Uppsala. Then on Monday we travelled to Denmark, where the Fantastik club and the SF Circle gave us a warm welcome. On Tuesday we got to see Viking boats and mummified bodies -- what more could one ask for?

Wednesday was spent on the train to Berlin, so here we are. We're no longer going to Ljubljana because of EasyJet flight changes and (more importantly) because we haven't made contact with any fans there. So we're here until Tuesday, when we fly home from Frankfurt.

Had a fantastic time in Finland thanks to the folks in Helsinki and Turku. [info]teroyks has a good photo here. We're now in Stockholm and will shortly head off to meet the local fans. Monday we travel to Copenhagen and Wednesday to Berlin.

The tar schnapps at Restaurant Viking Harald's was much better than one might have supposed.

Spent the weekend in Ireland. We were still a bit tired after Worldcon but perked up at a Dublin pub meet for fans.

Spent much of Monday in Stansted airport, where a special squad from Cambridge flew in to provide excellent company. Arrived safe in Tampere, Finland last night. Spent the morning looking around Tampere, which has an endless number of small museums devoted to such topics as Moomins, spies, Lenin and shoes. Took train to Helsinki, past lakes and birch forests, and spent the evening with some of the Helsinki (fan) Mafia.

Tomorrow we go to Turku. We reach Stockholm on Friday morning and Copenhagen on Monday. We're having a blast.

    revised travel plans: august
Various cancellations and other things have forced us to make some changes to our preliminary itinerary. Currently the next several days looks like this:

Friday 12 August: 14:50 ferry from Holyhead to Dublin, arrives 16:40. Head to [info]lostcarpark's place.
Monday 15 August: 9:05--10:15. Fly Dublin--Stansted. 17:20--22:10. Fly Stansted--Tampere. Both flights with Ryanair. Maybe we could have coffee in the airport with someone?

We currently plan to book a ferry to travel on Thursday 18 August from Turku to Stockholm, to arrive in Stockholm on Friday 19 August. We then plan on Monday 22 August to take a train to Copenhagen, and then on Wednesday August 24 to take a train to Berlin. After that we will at the least go to Frankfurt, and [info]dmw will then go eventually to Paris.

We had a great time over the past week at the Glasgow Worldcon. We've just arrived in north Wales, where we are staying with [info]kriste. On Friday we catch the ferry to Dublin.

Unfortunately, Easyjet have cancelled some of the flights we'd booked, which means we're having to rejig our itinerary after Dublin. We'll pop the revised details here in the next couple of days and will also email the people we're planning to meet.

We'd like to thank all the former fund winners who have counselled us to keep writing notes for the report. We have persevered and are almost up to date (lagging behind by 31 hours at present).

Today's our last day in London. Over the weekend we visited Oxford, saw part of Caption, got lost en route to a party at Rob and Avedon's (our thanks to the rescue team), and spent an afternoon and evening with Croydon fans.

Tomorrow we're off to Edinburgh on the "party train" and will be in Glasgow by Wednesday. Then the Worldcon begins...

For a couple of reasons, we've decided to delay our trip to Oxford by a day. This means that we won't be at the Oxford pub meet tonight. Instead we'll go up tomorrow and perhaps pop into Caption, an alternative comics convention that a number of fans are going to. We should be back in London by Saturday night. We'll be at the London pub meet on Monday and then we'll head up to Edinburgh on Tuesday. We're in Glasgow by Wednesday.

This week we got back from Cambridge and then went up to Reading for a couple of days before returning to London. Blurry (and less blurry) snapshots posted by [info]dmw are of Avebury and of the British Science Fiction Association meeting in Belgravia, where the guest was Gary Wolfe.

Our thanks to our fine hosts.

Thursday and Friday Hampshire. Gorgeous scenery and excellent company. The occasional steep hill.

Saturday [info]dmw in London at fannish party. [info]dalmeny already in Cambridge.

Sunday Pink champagne over breakfast with old friends. Australian riesling over an enormously large lunch with Cambridge fans.

Upcoming: Reading pub meet on Monday. Possibly BSFA on Wednesday. Oxford pub meet on Thursday. Weekend back in London.

Hello from Croydon. Here follows a brief summary to date.

Friday to Sunday Fly to Melbourne for Continuum convention. Catch up with many, many Australian fans. Meet a few more.

Sunday night to Monday Fly to London via Singapore. Claire and Mark pick us up at Heathrow and then undertake the perilous navigational feat of returning to Croydon as the London rush hour approaches. Drop off luggage, have a shower, head off to an AnonymousClaire pub meet. [info]bohemiancoast has posted a thankfully blurry photograph of our jetlagged selves. Beers sampled: Samuel Smith's Old Brewery and Extra Stout. No complaints.

Tuesday A deliberately quiet post-flight recovery day. Our most adventurous moment is when we walk a hundred metres to the local Tesco's. Giant bumblebees startle us as we hang out the washing.

Wednesday Trip to Folkestone to see [info]brisingamen, as mentioned in her journal. [info]peake regrettably overseas, but met the notorious cats and toured the sunny seaside. Beer sampled: Abbot Ale, which reminds [info]dalmeny of Sierra Nevada.

Today we're off to Hampshire. Tomorrow we briefly split up to cover more territory. [info]dalmeny heads to Cambridge while [info]dmw stays on in London an extra day. We're aiming for Reading and Oxford next week and have some phonecalls to make in that regard.
